New Haven County resident Joseph Amadeo, of North Branford, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, April 19, to one count of receipt of child pornography, the US Attorney for Connecticut said. He was released on $100,000 bail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for July 12 in Hartford.

Federal agents began investigating Amadeo in 2020 after linking him to an online community on the dark web that shared child pornography, the prosecutor said. In March 2021, police searched Amadeo's home and seized a computer and several electronic devices, where they found thousands of files featuring child sex abuse, officials said.

Amadeo faces a minimum of five years in prison and up to 20 years for his guilty plea.

He was previously convicted of child pornography charges in 2013 and has had to register as a sex offender since, federal authorities said.
